Wine Into Water October 2011

The first wine into water event took place on Friday night and not only did we raise £200 for WaterAid but we learnt a lot about wine and had a brilliant time into the bargain- see the pics below!

Sam and Karen from Majestic answered many questions about the French and Chilean wines, and there was also smoked salmon and cheese on hand to match to various wines.

If you attended on the event and would like to try some of these wines again, they're available in Majestic Cardiff Bay and they included:

Whites: Chateau de Sancerre 2009, Chablis (Boudin), Chardonnay "Llanuras de Camarico"
Reds: Villa Maria Pinot Noir, Chateau Boutisse, Peter Lehman Shiraz.

We also had a vote on the favourite wine of the evening, and the Chateau Boutisse was the narrow winner (I voted for the Shiraz myself!)

The Cardiff WaterAid supporters group would like to thank all those who attended for their support of WaterAid, and in particlaur Dean from St Saviour's church (a perfect venue) and Sam and Karen for their patience in dealing with all the questions!

The event sold out a few days prior to Friday, but we will be arranging another one so watch this space...

Cardiff Bay Coastalong 2011 photos

Saturday was a brilliant day out, about a 100 people embarked from the Norwegian Church at 2pm including babies, children, a tap, walking groups, families, friends and of course the Cardiff WaterAid supporters.

The rain stayed away all afternoon, we even had a few spots of sunshine- and no one got lost either! It was a pleasure to meet and talk to people en route, but was still a relief to get back to the Norwegian Church and mission accomplished.

The route is 6 miles long, and took us about 2.5 hours- did you know that women and children in some of the world's poorest countries walk on average 6km to often unprotected water sources such as rivers or muddy dugouts, and that the average weight carried is 20kg?

So thank you for your fundraising efforts- it really does make a difference.

We've put together a gallery of photos from the day, if you have anymore that we could add please send them to wateraidcardiff@gmail.com

Finally, we'd love to hear what you think about the event- did you enjoy it? Leave your comments below.

Coastalong Saturday 10th September

We're all set for Saturday, final arrangements in place- so if you're taking part in this year's Coastalong on the Cardiff Bay Trail, Cardiff WaterAid Supporter's group will be there (in our Coastalong T-Shirts!) to answer any questions you have and to help you along the way.

The walk will start at 2pm, and should take roughly 2 hours to do the circular walk. You won't be able to miss our WaterAid banners and flags by the Norwegian Church. There will be stewards along the way to guide you on the right track as well.

If you haven't done this particular walk before, you're in for a treat as you'll pass many historic points, and of course the views over Penarth Head and the Bristol Channel.

In fact you'll be near water throughout the walk- but did you know that 1 in 8 of the world's population don't have access to safe water, so good luck with your sponsorship efforts on behalf of WaterAid.

Water is one thing we in Wales have in abundance but can you imagine life without it...?

31st May: WaterAid Supporters at Chapter Arts

The event at Chapter Arts on the 31st May was a great success; following the film we conducted some children’s activities involving climate change and the importance of clean water.

For example children had carry a five litre container of water around the area in front of the entrance to see how heavy it was, and a surface water drainage model the children had to empty a litre of water into the model and see how much was absorbed by the grass and then do it again when the grass was replaced by buildings to see the difference it made.

While these activities were underway WaterAid Cardiff volunteers were on hand to promote WaterAid and answer questions from parents.

If you would like to take part in a similar event (we always need more volunteers to help!) or have any ideas to raise money and promote WaterAid, please get in touch- we’d love to hear from you.
